Pippa’s Got A New Favorite!
Over the weekend, during a family outing, we came across the adorable board book Mommies Say Shhh! at a local thrift shop. I picked up the book to take a closer look and offered it to Pippa, just to see if she would be interested. She was! Pippa held this book so tightly and wouldn’t put it down for anything. We even had to explain to the cashier that bagging the book was not necessary or possible! Even still, being a big fan of “adopting” used books, I was happy to give this one a home in our personal library. Besides, I could never discourage reading!
Lately, Pippa has been enjoying exploring different animals and mimicking their sounds. She’s gotten pretty good at some of them, too! When we read along with books that have lots of animals, story-time becomes a whole lot more fun and somewhat animated! So, adding the title Mommies Say Shhh! couldn’t have happened at a better time. Filled with beautiful illustrations and lots of fun animal sounds, this story is an absolute joy.
If you are already familiar with the artwork that goes into a Patricia Polacco book, you understand that her style is very special. Mommies Say Shhh! is no exception. And though some of her other titles are better suited for older kiddos, the theme of this particular book is short, sweet and simple, making it the perfect read-along companion for your tot!
Pippa isn’t quite two yet but she wants to participate in reading time. She does not always want to just to just observe and listen. Mommies Say Shhh! allows her to be fully engaged and entertained. Pippa absolutely loves this book and so do we!
Mommies Say Shhh!
Published: February 17th 2005
Goats say “Maa-Maa-Maa.” Birds say “Cheep-Cheep-Cheep.” Horses say “Neigh-Neigh-Neigh.” Rabbits say nothing at all! But when all of these animals get together and raise a honking, braying, neighing ruckus, what do mommies say? “Shhhhhh!”
With the simplest of texts and a variety of fun animal noises, Patricia Polacco has created another read-aloud winner for the preschool crowd. ~via Goodreads
