Buying picture books for Pippa has become something that I look very forward to. Perhaps it is the kid in me that never quite grew up or its the joy that I see in Pippa’s eyes when she gets a new book. Or maybe it’s both. Either way, Greg and I love to explore the many beautiful books that are out there and select a few special ones for her own little library. This past week, Pippa got two gorgeous books to add to her collection. …they are simply stunning …they got lots of smiles.
Take a look… really, the pictures speak for themselves!
Adventures with Barefoot Critters
Publication Date: April 8th 2014
“Join an adorable cast of animal characters as they explore the alphabet through the seasons. From gathering honey in spring to building cozy campfires in fall, the friends make the most of each season, both enjoying the great outdoors and staying snug inside. Learning the alphabet is fun when adventuring with these critters, and children and adults alike will delight in Teagan White’s sweet, nostalgic illustrations.” ~via Goodreads
This could be my favorite ABC book to date – and we have a bunch! Teagan White has created the sweetest world that walks your littlest readers through their ABCs and so much more. As you make your way through each letter of the alphabet in Adventures with Barefoot Critters, you are also moving through each of the months and their seasons. Every scene is different, fun and incredibly sweet. When we first got this book and showed Pippa, her face lit right up! Greg and I even flipped through each page on our own to further appreciate it – because you really do need to. This ABC adventure picture book is a sure winner with our little family and we will definitely want to add more books with the barefoot critters (or anything that Teagan White creates) to Pippa’s collection!
The House in the Night
Susan Marie Swanson and Beth Krommes
HMH Books for Young Readers
Publication Date: May 5, 2008
“Winner of the 2009 Caldecott Medal! A spare, patterned text and glowing pictures explore the origins of light that make a house a home in this bedtime book for young children. Naming nighttime things that are both comforting and intriguing to preschoolers – a key, a bed, the moon – this timeless book illuminates a reassuring order to the universe.” ~via Goodreads
Ok… The House in the Night is beyond beautiful. When I picked this one out for Pippa, I really wasn’t too sure how she would respond because each page has loads of detail and it isn’t the usual bright and colorful book that we would typically get for her. Would it be too much? Too little? Personally speaking, I am in love with this color(less) palette! The House in the Night is so extraordinarily different and it really feels like art. Thankfully, I am not the only one who appreciates this fabulous find! The House in the Night is absolutely perfect for that special bedtime story. It intrigues and educates. It truly holds your attention. Pippa gave her approval and I am so happy that we found another book that the entire family enjoys together.
Aren’t these two books just lovely? What are some of your favorite picture books? We are always adding to our collection would love some suggestions! xo
