Guest Post & Giveaway – The Sweetest Kind of Fate

GREAT. I’ve somehow found myself tangled up with a siren, a mermaid, and a homicidal wicked witch who once tried to strangle me to death. Way to go, Amber!

Amber Sand, legendary matchmaker, couldn’t be more surprised when her arch nemesis, Ivy, comes asking for her help. Ivy’s sister, Iris, is getting married, and Ivy wants to prove her sister is making a huge mistake. But as Amber looks into Iris’s eyes, there doesn’t seem to be a problem—Iris has clearly found her match.

It seems happily ever after is in the cards, but when Iris seeks out a dangerous, life-altering spell, it’s up to Amber and Ivy to set aside their rivalry and save the day.

While Iris is willing to put everything on the line for love, Amber continues to wrestle with her own romantic future. Her boyfriend, Charlie, is still destined for another, and no matter how hard she clings to him, fear over their inevitable breakup shakes her belief system to the core.

Because the Fates are never wrong—right?

I am so happy to welcome Crystal Cestari to A Bookish Abode. I read and loved her first book, The Best Kind of Magic, so you can imagine I am very excited to have the opportunity to learn more about Amber and Charlie and the inspiration behind these two, wonderful characters!

While love at first sight and opposites attract have their places, I’ve always been drawn to couples whose spark stems from their dialogue. Witty, flirty banter gets my heart fluttering like nothing else. Some of my all-time favorite couples are Veronica and Logan from Veronica Mars, Jim and Pam from The Office, and Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy from Pride and Prejudice.

Everything Amber says is tinged with sarcasm, so she needed to be paired with someone who could appreciate her sense of humor, and not let ego get in the way. Amber knows who she is, and doesn’t suffer fools. Charlie is not afraid to be overpowered by his lady, and actually likes standing back to let her magic shine.

Amber can also be a little bit jaded, whereas Charlie more oftentimes than not looks at the world with a childlike optimism. He accepts Amber for who she is, while also trying to help her see past some of her self-imposed obstacles. They like to tease each other and play around, but deep down, they admire what their partner brings to the conversation, which is what makes their dialogue so fun to write!

With rainbows in my hair and stories in my head, I am a writer drawn to magic in the everyday world.

My debut novel, The Best Kind of Magic, arrived May 16, 2017 from Hyperion. Follow Amber Sand, a magical matchmaker who can actually see true love, as she takes off on a fun and romantic adventure toward happily ever after.

  • Tomorrow, The Ostrich and Other Lost Things by Beth Hautala will finally be released and I couldn’t recommend this fantastic middle-grade book more. It’s been a fast favorite - dealing with family, unconditional love and autism in a way I’ve not experienced before. It is beautiful and it reaches.
But that’s an entirely different book, right? I picked up this beauty because I loved The Ostrich so much that I needed to find Beth’s first book. So, here is Waiting for Unicorns and you can take a guess at what I’ll be reading today!

  • I’m so in love with this “new” old desk. My reading nook has been replaced with a writing nook. I read anywhere and everywhere, so this is a welcomed change. Now I have a place to explore my own ideas.

  • After coming off a book that completely gutted me (but was brilliantly written) I might need some “fluff”. From what I’ve gathered, this book isn’t it. Apparently, I love to torment myself with stories that grab at my heart and soul. .
